Project Title / Description

John Whyte trust fund

Set up 1991, to promote scholarship problems in Ireland, to encourage young people to exchange with those on other side of border. One postgraduate scholarship offered for QUB student to study at UCD and vice versa in alternate years.

Short study grants and conference fees also given.

Funded from donations in memory of John Whyte and from royalties of his book 'Interpreting Northern Ireland.'

Citizenship & Peace

This inter­disciplinary European research project was developed in co­operation between UCC and QUB, in light of the first IRA cease­fire. It involved annual working seminars for twenty academic participants
from six European countries. They presented and discussed research papers on the potential concepts of 'citizenship' in the emerging political discourses in multi­cultural settings of various European regions.

Towards New Governance?:

The British-Irish Council

 

The overarching aim of this study is to examine and analyse the impact of the new and developing structure on intergovernmental relations between the constituent members of the British-Irish Council, within the context of the European Union.

A proposal has been submitted to the Economic and Social Research Council under its research programme on devolution and constitutional change. The proposal has been short-listed. The writing up of the project will be completed in December 2005.
